Bringing Sketches to Life

This series explores the potential of AI image-generation tools like MidJourney to transform traditional architectural sketches into rich, atmospheric visualisations. The sketches here come from a built project completed a few years ago for Google Hamburg, reimagined through this new technology.

Even as tools evolve, the simple hand sketch remains one of the most powerful ways to think through design ideas. What’s exciting is that AI now extends that power. Helping communicate mood, materiality, and context quickly and evocatively, without the overhead of full rendering or modelling workflows.

For me, this isn’t about replacing the act of drawing, but about amplifying it. AI-generated visuals can bridge the gap between rough concept and finished idea, offering clients and collaborators a clearer window into design thinking early on. I'm looking forward to pushing this further in upcoming projects, using these tools to make the design process even more engaging, collaborative, and clear.
